IRS to Propose Guidance on Employer Shared Responsibility Plan

Summary: Beginning in 2014, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) imposes “pay or play” requirements on large employers to help ensure that individuals have access to affordable health coverage. Under these “pay or play” requirements, large employers that do not offer any health coverage to their full-time employees or that offer health coverage to their full-time employees that is either unaffordable or does not provide minimum value may be subject to a penalty. This penalty is also referred to as a “shared responsibility payment.”
